The Cerro of the Capitana is the highest in the Sierra Norte at 960 metres. Its viewpoint, excellent for observing migratory birds and large birds of prey, offers impressive views. To the north, in the wide Extremadura peneplain, a mosaic of villages between crops, meadows and pastures stretching as far as the eye can see. Highlights include Fuente del Arco, Castillo de la Reina (with its medieval castle), Berlanga, Valverde de Llerena and, further away, Azuaga or, on a clear day, Badajoz. To the south is a succession of mountain ranges: Sierra del Agua with the Pico Hamapega (910 metres), Sierra de La Grana after the Llanos de Guadalcanal and the Sierra de San Miguel. In the valley of the latter runs La Senda, a crucial livestock track in the Mesta for Merino sheep, a communication route with Extremadura.
