Guadalcanal's Holy Week, declared of National Tourist Interest in 2000, has a long tradition and deep-rooted roots, with processions beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter Sunday. The days of greatest splendour for the brotherhoods are from Holy Wednesday to Holy Saturday.
In Guadalcanal there are six brotherhoods of penitence, all of which hold solemn services in preparation for the passion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ and which are very popular in this town, both in Christian and popular terms, as this Holy Week is one of the town's main festivities.
