Ermita Cristo of Humilladero

Description

The hermitage of Humilladero del Cristo is located on the Royal Road that took us from Guadalcanal to Llerena. It is a Baroque building from the second half of the 18th century. Next to the hermitage is the Humilladero, from the same century, of the templete del Humilladero to highlight, a tiled mural depicting a Calvary with flowers and some verses, which has now been restored and is on public display in the Church of Santa Ana.

Cardinal Solís granted 100 days of indulgence to those who prayed a creed in front of this Christ. All the walkers used to come to this hermitage to give thanks and pray for the wellbeing of their loved ones. In front of the esplanade of this hermitage, in the middle of September, a feast in honour of the Christ used to be held (the “Velada del Cristo”), which was later moved to the Plaza de España.
